AmazonのCDNビジネス

AmazonがCDNビジネスに進出するようだ。といっても単独ではなく、S3やEC2などのコンピューティング・クラウドの延長として。GigaOMでは「破壊的」と評価している。「本を買うようにCDNサービスを買える（API-based CDN）」という点と「価格」の２点からだ。さらにAmazonがやる場合は既存のAWSユーザーを取り込めるという優位性も有する。

If Amazon delivers what it is promising -– a simple, API-based CDN – then it would put then not only ahead of all CDN players, but also force rivals to meet the rules (and pricing) set by Amazon. There is a good chance that it’s going to drive weaker players right out of the game.

CDNと言えばAkamaiだったし、今でも使いまくりなんだけど、コモディティになってゆく中では今の彼らのポジションに変更が生じるかもしれない。

Mac Book Kindle?

Intelが低価格用デバイス向けのCPUファミリ「Atom」を発表したわけだが、裏でAppleと組んでいる？という見方はアリかなと思う。Mac Book Airの薄さ+Multi Touch UI+Atom=「さらに洗練されたAmazonのKindle book reader」みたいな話。

Jobsは1月のMac World 2008において「40%のアメリカ人は年間1冊或いは全く本を読まない」と数字を挙げてAmazonのKindle book readerの市場が大きくならないだろうと述べているが、これは「我々ならもっとうまくできる」というメッセージの裏返しかもしれない。

iPhone のマルチタッチ・テクノロジの元はSafari Padからだそうだが、Appleならあのテクノロジーを最大限利用した「気持ちのよいMac Book Kindle」を作ることができるだろう。本当に本のページをめくって読んでいるような感覚にさせつつ、指先ひとつで拡大・縮小・回転・ブラウジングがで き、使いやすい栞や音読などの付加価値もつく。

株価がどーんと下落してるAppleだが、今年はこれかもね。
