クラウド・コンピューティングになったら開発もクラウドでやる？ しかしPCローカル開発に比べると今の段階ではスムーズな操作はまだ期待できそうにない。Mozillaラボはこの領域にHTML5を持ち込んだ。その答えがBespin。

Bespin is a Mozilla Labs experiment that proposes an open, extensible web-based framework for code editing that aims to increase developer productivity, enable compelling user experiences, and promote the use of open standards.

HTML5ではCookieなどではなくローカルデータベースを持つことができる。エクスプローラや固有のファイルシステムに頼らない「Web is the OS」の世界に近づくので、ブラウザさえあればどこでも開発ができて、保存はクラウド、という開発者にとって都合のいい姿が実現できるというわけだ。
