ふたご座流星群

今夜はふたご座流星群が最も活発になる夜だったが、生憎の雨。でも、アーカンサスではよく見られたみたい。明日は日本でも見ることができるかなあ。今年のギャラリーはここだ。

流星は彗星から流れ出した固体粒子が彗星軌道付近を浮遊し、この近くに地球の軌道が近いと、毎年その近辺を地球が通過する際に地球の引力に吸い寄せられ、大気圏で燃えて消滅するのが流星。大きさは平均で1グラムもないそうだ。大きなので燃え尽きないで地球に落ちると隕石。
